Family

Family matters, handled gently

Divorce, custody, support and adoption, with a lawyer who answers the phone and explains each step before it happens.

  • Divorce

Dividing the house, the accounts and the debts, by agreement where we can.

  • Custody

A schedule for two homes, and changing it when the children’s lives change.

  • Child and spousal support

Setting support, asking for a change, and collecting what’s owed.

  • Adoption

Stepparent and relative adoptions, finished in front of a judge with the family there.

How it usually goes

What the first weeks look like

  1. 01

    A first conversation

In English or Spanish, about what’s happened and what you want for your children.

  2. 02

    A plan in writing

What we’ll file, what it should cost and what the other side is likely to do.

  3. 03

    We go with you

To mediation, the conference with the court, and the hearing if there is one.

Family matters, asked across the table

Do we both need lawyers?

We can only represent one of you. Your spouse is welcome to hire their own, and many couples settle faster when both do.

Will I have to go to court?

Most custody and divorce cases settle in mediation or a conference. If yours needs a hearing, we prepare you for it.

Can we meet in Spanish?

Yes. Beatriz Rosado meets clients in Spanish at the Lancaster office, and our letters can come in both languages.
